Jesus Christ sits wounded beside the scourging pillar, His body marked by lashes and His head crowned with thorns. Roman soldiers and accusers crowd around Him in a shadowed judgment hall, one figure still holding the whip while others look on with hardened faces. The blood-stained column and discarded cloth emphasize the cruelty of the Passion and the suffering He willingly endured before the crucifixion. This scene reflects the Gospel accounts in which Pilate has Jesus flogged before delivering Him to be crucified. In Christian teaching, the scourging reveals both human violence against the innocent Son of God and the redemptive mystery of His sacrifice: “by His wounds” healing is proclaimed. The artwork is suited for Holy Week, Good Friday, Passion sermons, devotional study, and church teaching on Christ’s atonement.
